Beaches Business; Bailey's Powerhouse Gym Flexes Its Muscles at New Location


Healthy trends focusing on losing weight and looking great is bringing new business to the Beaches.

-- Bailey's Powerhouse Gym opens in Atlantic Beach

The Jacksonville-area health club opened its 10th center, this one at Atlantic Boulevard and Penman Road.

The two-story, 18,000-square-foot facility has cardio and strength training equipment, locker rooms with saunas, a group fitness studio, indoor cycling, personal and group training and a smoothie cafe and pro shop with vitamins, supplements and apparel.

"The support and positive feedback from the Jacksonville community has made the growth of Bailey's Gym possible," owner David Bailey said.

As it celebrates its second anniversary, That-a-Weigh Kids has opened its third Beaches site, this one at Jacksonville Beach Elementary School at 315 10th St. S.

The program was developed by Wendy Sapolsky, a pediatrician who believes that childhood eating is a family affair and that overweight girls and boys and their families need a healthy plan for eating right and playing hard.

Business Condos USA, the nation's largest developer of commercial condominiums, has signed contracts for an 18-unit The Oaks Business Center at 150 Hilden Road in Ponte Vedra Beach, near Hilden Road and U.S. 1, a mile south of County Road 210.

Gardens South Landscaping, Hagerty Construction, Southern Aquatics and Effective Computer Solutions have purchased the condos, said Larry Walshaw, president of Business Condos USA.
