President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo Visit to Shanghai and Yangtai, People's Republic of China and Mumbai, New Delhi, and Agra, Republic of India
SOON after a successful trip to the United Nations, to attend the United States General Assembly and meet with foreign businessmen and with the Filipino community in the East Coast of the United States, President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo leaves today for the People's Republic of China (PRoC) with a delegation of Cabinet members and business leaders. The President will meet with President Hu Jintao in bilateral talks that are expected to affirm the commitment of the two leaders to further strengthen Philippine-PRoC relations.
President Arroyo will speak at a Philippine Business and Investment Forum organized by the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade and the Shanghai Overseas Chinese Chamber of Commerce. The forum will enable President Arroyo and her delegation to present opportunities for expanded trade and investment opportunities.
In Shanghai, President Arroyo will witness the opening of the 2007 Special Olympics World Summer Games. This event, held only the second time outside the United States and for the first time in Asia, will bring together some 7,500 athletes from around the world, including the Philippines, to compete in 25 Olympic-type and demonstration sports. President Arroyo's support for the disabled will be extended beyond the Special Olympics when she addresses before the Global Policy Summit on the Well-being of People with Intellectual Disabilities, held in conjunction with the Special Olympics. She will join other leaders from government, the academe, health care, disability, business, philanthropy, and sports to discuss the challenges and opportunities for full inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities. …
