Chinese Official Seeks Scuttling of Weapons of Mass Destruction

A senior Chinese official called yesterday for the scuttling of nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction.
He Luli, vice chairwoman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of the People's Republic of China and president of Chinese People's Association for Peace and Disarmament (CPAPD), also called for the protection of ecological environment and the promotion of economic development and progress.
He, head of 13-member delegation from China, ended her five-day official visit to the Philippines.
He also called for the promotion of mutual understanding, friendship and cooperation between the peoples of China, the Philippines and the rest of the world in joint efforts to maintain world peace, oppose an arms race and war, and achieve arms control and disarmament.
He arrived in the Philippines last Wednesday and was accorded a warm welcome by Deputy House Speaker Ma. Amelita Calimbas-Villarosa, and Reps. Annie Rosa L. Susano of the 2nd district of Quezon City and Naida BenedictoAngping of Manila's 3rd district.
