COTTAGE GROVE - A celebration of life will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, at Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel in Cottage Grove for Pearl E. Chase of Cottage Grove, who died Jan. 23 of cardiac arrhythmia. She was 91. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Sears Cemetery in Cottage Grove.
Chase was born Dec. 4, 1916, in Goshen to Asa and Stella Cruzan Tilton. She married Dorman Chase on June 6, 1936, in Springfield.
She graduated from Pleasant Hill High School in 1936. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include a daughter, Connie Cox of Northridge, Calif.; two sons, Henry of Alpharetta, Ga., and Tom of Eugene; a sister, Julia Martin of Springfield; 10 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Her husband died March 24, 1997.
VENETA - Gerald Wayne "Jerry" Hill of Veneta died Jan. 20 at age 58. The family chose not to list the cause of death. No service is planned.
He was born May 8, 1949, in Baltimore to Noah and Mildred Moulton Hill. He married Shauna Whitworth on May 15, 1996, in Memphis, Tenn.
Hill graduated from Southern High School in 1967 and served in the Navy. He worked for Kimberly-Clark Corp. in Memphis and for Advanced Security Systems in Eureka, Calif.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Heather Cramner of New Jersey and Amanda Hill and Kristen Hill, both of Memphis, Tenn.; seven siblings, Noah Hill of Crisfield, Md., Robert Hill of Clearwater, Fla., Jacquelyn Allely of Chesapeake, Va., Virginia Backoff of Palm Bay, Fla., Ronald Hill of Ferndale, Md., William Hill of Linthicum, Md. ,and Richard Hill of Baltimore; and one grandchild.
Arrangements by Alpha Cremation Services in Eugene.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Feb. 2 at Springfield Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home for Carolyn Louise Howells of Eugene, who died Jan. 19 of cancer at age 73. Following the service, a reception will be held at Willamalane Community Center in Springfield.
She was born May 2, 1934, in Salem to Robert and Amelia Kayser Jones. She married Jim Howells on June 17, 1961, in Salem.
She held bachelor's and master's degrees in education from Oregon College of Education in Monmouth. She was a teacher at Nestucca High School and Dallas High School, and an English teacher at Willamette High School from 1965 to 1992, when she retired. …
