Funds to Fit in Five Hours of Culture; Museums to Take Lead

LIVERPOOL'S museums will be given funding to help provide every school pupil with five hours of high-quality culture per week.
National Museums Liverpool (NML), which includes the Walker Art Gallery and the Museum of Liverpool, will play a part in a new government scheme announced yesterday.
But education leaders are raising concerns about its practicalities, and whether it will take place in school hours.
The Department for Children, Schools and Families launched the pounds 25m "Find Your Talent" scheme (FYT) to give children the chance to experience art and culture through shows, galleries and theatres.
NML have agreed to help deliver the scheme, managed by Creative Partnerships through the Arts Council England.
The scheme will give children hands-on experience of acting, playing a musical instrument, creating art and other opportunities, and will be piloted in 10 UK areas.
Carol Rogers, executive director for visitor management and learning at NML, said the scheme was exciting and would build on the success of the eight museums. …
