EDF says there has been lots of exciting HR developments at its Doxford Park site this year, including training, progression, development, sickness levels and the introduction of the HR business partner model.
Initial training is a vital goal for the business and a new starter receives a warm and friendly welcome during an eight-week welcome programme. New starters are also assigned a 'buddy'.
There is also an internal progression system, giving loyal employees the chance to move into different positions within the company.
Self-development is also seen as an important tool and many staff have used EDF's 'room to grow' - a self-evaluation process to improve their performances.
Through 2007, a lot of time was spent analysing sickness. HR adviser Sharon Hay worked closely with the senior management team to produce a rigorous reporting tool and precise management process for sickness absence.
More than 300 new starters were trained last year, while churn figures and sick figures were significantly reduced. …
