NestlA[c] Philippines Issues Report on Sustainable CSR Initiatives
NestlA[c] Philippines, Inc. (NPI) recently released an in-depth report on its sustainable corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
Titled "Nurturing Filipinos, Enhancing the Quality of Life, the report details outreach programs conducted by NestlA[c] in the Philippines in six areas of endeavor: (1) environmental protection; (2) assistance to coffee farmers; (3) support for education; (4) helping communities to grow; (5) promoting health and nutrition; and (6) youth development through sports.
NestlA[c] Philippines Chairman and CEO Nandu Nandkishore said the commitment to make a positive difference in the lives of people and contribute to sustainable development has been ingrained in the NestlA[c] culture since the Company's founding in 1866, when Henri NestlA[c] invented the first cereal-based milk food for very young children. "NestlA[c] has always believed that companies who pursue sustainable business practices directly improve the world around us because they have the ability to influence their employees, customers and consumers, and shareholders to make an even bigger difference," Mr. Nandkishore said.
Caring for the environment. As early as the 1980's, NestlA[c] Philippines was already evolving a comprehensive approach to guardianship of the environment, starting with investments in wastewater treatment facilities at its factories, to ensure that all wastewater is clean enough to sustain marine life. Today, the approach of taking responsibility for the environment is an integral part of its business philosophy, and is incorporated into all aspects of operations. Not only does NestlA[c] adhere to a formal environmental policy committed to environmentally sound business practices, it has attained significant improvements in environmental performance along with considerable business growth. NPI's performance has proven that caring for the environment makes good business sense.

Established in 1994, the NestlA[c] Experimental and Demonstration Farm in Tagum City, Davao del Norte, which supplies 80% of coffee seedlings/plantings produced in the country today, serves as the hub of the company's research and training activities, and showcases coffee farming practices that yield the best results, while being replicable. As an active member of the Philippine Coffee Board, NPI in 2000 provided seed funding to produce bio-organic fertilizers for distribution to coffee farmers in South Luzon. …
