DILG Holds Water Sanitation Summit

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), in partnership with the German Agency for Technical Cooperation (GTZ) and the local government of Negros Oriental, held a two-day regional summit where participants discussed and made an evaluation of major policies and strategies being implemented by the national and local governments towards sustainable sanitation.
This is in line with efforts to help address the increasing wastewater and sanitation problem in the country.
DILG Undersecretary Austere Panadero said the Visayas and Mindanao regional summit held last week in Dumaguete City aimed to create awareness among LGUs and decision makers on the necessity of a well-functioning sanitation service in their priority agenda and set aside appropriate budget.
Panadero said the summit, which was held with the theme "Sharing our Contribution in Building a Strong Nation through Sustainable Sanitation," included LGU presentations on their sanitation projects.
The LGUs also shared their experiences with special attention on the processes of planning, financing, and community participation component of the projects.
Sustainable sanitation best practices were presented by LGUs from Regions VI (Western Visayas), VII (Central Visayas ), VIII (Eastern Visayas) and X (Northern Mindanao) and other regions, he said. …
