Post Wins Award for Exposing Mathew Street Festival Fiasco
THE Liverpool Daily Post has picked up another crop of awards for its journalism at the O2 Media Awards for Merseyside and Cheshire.
The Daily Post's coverage of last year's Mathew Street Festival fiasco and its aftermath won the Scoop of the Year award at the event at O2's regional base at Preston Brook, Runcorn.
The judges said the Daily Post displayed "tenacious reporting skills to break the story but also an untiring determination to get to the truth. As a result, the impact of their investigations is still causing reverberations today".
One of the key journalists who worked on the Mathew Street story, David Bartlett, picked up the award for Young Journalist of the Year.
Daily Post editor Mark Thomas said last night: "These awards reflect very well on our outstanding news team, who do a superb job in cutting through the spin and the hot air that surrounds so much in public life, to bring our readers the real inside track on what is going on in our city region. …
