Environmental Engineering Firm Enpure Could Be Sold; ENVIRONMENTAL

The private-equity owner of a leading Birmingham-based environmental engineering firm is believed to be looking to sell the company as merger and acquisition activity in the sector continues apace.

Enpure, which has headquarters at Wood gate Business Park, was bought by Aberdeen Asset Management in a pounds 19.1 million management buyout in November 2006.

Corporate finance advisers at KPMG are believed to be handling the deal but last night both they and Aberdeen Asset Management refused to comment.

Enpure is a processing engineering business whose technologies span water, wastewater and sludge treatment as well as industrial and municipal waste, working with many clients on long term collaborative or partnering agreements.

The firm is working on a pounds 20 million contract as principal sub-contractor with Costain and Viridor Laing on the Greater Manchester Waste District Authority PFI contract, one of the largest waste PFI projects in Europe.

Meanwhile, on a smaller scale, another waste management company, Black Country based Recycle Plastic, is set to add new jobs after it doubled the size of its operations.

The company, which turns waste plastic into fine chips of raw plastic ready for reuse, has added 15,000 sq ft to its base in Old bury, bringing its operations up to a total of 35,000 sq ft.

General manager JazChahal said the firm was looking to add two or three new jobs in the coming months as manufacturing firms, driven by the need to make cost savings as times get tough, increasingly turn to recycled raw materials.

He said: "It's very appealing to them because they are saving money on material.

"Also, people are becoming more aware of environmental issues and the high costs of sending waste to landfill are driving companies to look at recycling," he said.

The waste management sector has seen healthy levels of growth recently, in sharp contrast contrast to the perilous state of the rest of the economy. …
