GARY O'Neill has been linked with a move to Shamrock Rovers.
No deal has been hammered out but new Rovers boss Michael O'Neill is keen to talk with the striker.
O'Neill was one of nine players released from St Patrick's Athletic at the end of the season. He was expected to join Bohemians but that deal appears to be off as the double winners have been forced to cut costs ahead of next year.
O'Neill was also linked with First Division side Sporting Fingal - one of the only clubs set to increase their budgets.
But Rovers have now been alerted to the Dubliner's situation and are keen to find out if he would be interested in a move to Tallaght.
Rovers could certainly do with boosting their attacking options.
Excluding the three relegated clubs, Rovers were the second lowest scorers in the Premier Division last season.
Meanwhile, O'Neill has received a massive thumbs up from the current Rovers squad.
The 39-year-old former Northern Ireland international only took control of the club last week - but has been an instant hit.
He held talks with senior players towards the end of last week and outlined his ambitious plans for the club. …
