Cavite Pupils Top Calabarzon Writing Tilts
BATANGAS CITY - Forty-two elementary school pupils, led by 10 gradeschool children from Cavite, have been picked by the Department of Education (DepEd) as the winners in 14 individual writing competitions held during the 2008 Southern Tagalog-A (Calabarzon) Regional Schools Press Conference (RSPC) at the Batangas National High School here.
DepEd Calabarzon Regional Director Paraluman R. Giron said that RSPC, participated in by over 1,000 pupil journalists from public and private schools in 15 provincial and city schools divisions, focused on the theme "Climate Change:A Call for Responsible Campus Journalism."
Giron said a report submitted by Southern Tagalog-A elementary education division chief Marietta Opulencia stated that Cavite gradeschool scribes emerged overall champion in the regional writing contest after they placed first in three individual writing contests, emerged second in two, and came out third in five derbies.
The first place winning Cavite pupil penpushers, Giron said, are Janella Grace Paris of the Naic Elementary School (ES) in English (E) news writing, Murielyn Dee F. Garcia of San Francisco ES in editorial cartooning (E) and Rica Mae G. Rosales of La Asuncion Montessori ES in feature writing (E)
Giron said that Cavite's Darlene Leira Panganiban and Danica E. Corido both emerged second placers in Filipino (F) editorial writing and editorial cartooning (E), respectively.
Five other Cavite gradescchool children, Girion said, also placed third in individual writing tilts. …
