Junior Netters Resume Phinma Bid
Wildcard qualifier Jeson Patrombon hopes to achieve what he failed to accomplish last week when he leads the charge of the Filipinos today in the Phinma International Juniors Circuit Week 2 at the Rizal Memorial Tennis courts.
The 15-year-old Patrombon, the latest star to pop out of Iligan City, was a big revelation in last week's opening of the two-week event when he overwhelmed several seeded rivals to barge into the semis.
Aside from Patrombon, other Filipinos gaining wildcard berths are Joshua Tan Ho, Kim Ivor Saraza, Akio Sy, and Leander Lazaro.
Romar Hernandez was the last Filipino to join the tournament proper following victories over Liang Jian-chong of China, 6-3, 7-5, and Heo Ji Hoon of Northern Mariana Islands, 7-5, 6-4 in the qualifying round.
RP's top junior netter and Week 1 champion Francis Casey Alcantara withdrew from taking part in the tournament to take a much-needed rest before resuming training for the Junior Australian Open in January next year.
Anna Christine and Anna Clarice Patrimonio, meanwhile, banner the RP's bid in the girls' side. …
