The Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges, and Universities 51st General Assembly
THE Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges, and Universities (PAASCU) opens today its 51st General Assembly at the Club Filipino in Greenhills, San Juan City, with the theme "New Horizons and Emerging Challenges for Accreditation.'' This year's theme emphasizes the imperative for educational institutions to continually strive to offer excellent programs through periodic self-evaluation and accreditation by a reputable and independent body. It likewise poses a challenge to PAASCU, as well as other accrediting bodies, to continually improve the accreditation criteria and process to keep up with changes in the field.
The PAASCU is a private, voluntary, non-profit, and non-stock corporation which is a member of the Asia-Pacific Quality Network and the International Network for Quality Assurance Agencies in Higher Education. Its assessors are experts in their fields and possess a high degree of integrity. It was initially registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission in December, 1957. In 1967, it was officially recognized by the Bureau of Education (now the Department of Education).
Among PAASCU's major objectives in identifying educational institutions that meet the criteria of educational quality are: To stimulate and integrate the efforts of institutions to raise the standards of education in the Philippines in both the rural and urban areas, and to strengthen the capabilities of educational institutions in the service of the nation. …
