ANC Mourns MP Killed in Crash near Wolseley

THE ANC in the Western Cape has conveyed its condolences to relatives and friends of 65-year-old John Schippers, an ANC MP who died in a car accident near Wolseley on Saturday morning.
"He was a humble, hard working and much loved public representative who was a pillar of his community. He died in the course of carrying out ANC duties.
"The ANC Western Cape mourns the death of John Schippers and conveys its deepest sympathies to his wife, two sons and members of his family and friends," ANC provincial secretary Sipho Kroma said.
Schippers worked with the ANC's Tulbagh branch and had served three terms as an MP - first with the New National Party and later with the ANC.
"He worked quietly and diligently and was a pillar in his community," ANC provincial spokes-person Garth Strachan said yesterday. He said an ANC delegation was sent to Schippers's family when news of the accident was received.
"When I went to where it happened, there were ANC leaflets scattered across the road," Strachan said.
Schippers's son, Donovan Schippers, said the accident happened on the R34 highway near Wolseley while his father was on his way home after a visit to the ANC's Worcester office where he had collected pamphlets. …
