New Type of Service for Diabetes

IN an effort to bring down waiting lists and improve public health services a new facility offering the best in type 2 diabetes specialists will soon open its doors.
A new service aimed at improving the quality of life for people with type 2 diabetes is planned for Mackay early next year.
A continuing partnership between Mackay Connecting Healthcare in Communities (CHIC) and the Primary Health Care Partnership (PHCP) will introduce the Podiatry Insulin Initiation and Kidneys service (PIK), which will provide patients with increased access to services.
The new facility will employ a podiatrist, a dietician, a diabetes educator, a physician, and a services co-ordinator, however not all those positions have been filled yet.
Chairperson of the CHIC PHCP group, Dr Helen Archibald said the PIK project was still urgently seeking a diabetes educator, a podiatrist and a services coordinator.
"We need a full multi-disciplinary team to provide care assistance for people with type 2," she said. …
