Alvis Drive a Step Closer to the Title; FOOTBALL: Top-of-the-Table Clash Goes the Way of Premier Division Leaders: COVENTRY ALLIANCE

ALVIS took a giant step towards claiming the Premier Division crown when they triumphed 3-0 in their top-of-the-table showdown with Christ The King.

The two contenders went into the game on the back of midweek draws - Alvis were held 0-0 at Potters Green while Kings settled for a 1-1 share at AEI Rugby - but Alvis packed too much firepower for their disappointing rivals. Chris Harris (2) and Daz Beckett settled the issue, and they now have a 10-point cushion against Kings, who have two matches in hand.

Dunlop were downed by a goal from Folly Lane's Andy Duel while Triumph notched a 3-2 success at Ambleside, Darren Judge, Anthony Hotton and an own-goal outweighing home strikes by Ian Morris and Ian Chaddaway,.

Mount Nod got back to winning ways when Jack Cudworth and Matthew Kelly tamed Potters Green with a 2-0 win and Peugeot clipped Stockton 3-0 with goals from Stuart Nichol (2) and Arron Ludford. Bulkington secured the same score against Stockingford, courtesy of Zac Fotherington (2) and Paul Castle but Witherley United (Mark Latham) and Bedworth Ex-Service (Darren Whitmore) drew 1-1.

In Alliance One, Bourton & Frankton slumped to a 5-2 defeat against Coventry Colliery despite goals from Lee Catlow and Danny Mc- Manus while a lone strike by Michael Sutherton was enough to give Christ The King maximum points at Brooklands/Jaguar.

Chris Adear and Ian Carvell earned Woodlands a 2-1 win against promotion rivals Coundon Court (Trevor Knight) as Folly Lane (Paddy Goldon) and Collycroft (Paul Taylor) shared a 1-1 draw.

Copsewood maintained their Alliance Two form when Nick Martin (2) and Adam Coler swung a 3-1 decision against Christ The King III but Richard Spencer's own-goal gave Fillongley a 1-0 win against Peugeot Reserves while Craig Scott and Darren Wood were the Hub's heroes in a 2-0 scoreline at Shilton..

Ashley Clarke (2), Andy Griffin, Chris Hole and Mike Coleman spearheaded Kenilworth Wardens' 5-2 win against Sporting Club (Craig Simpson, Bas Blakemore) and Paul McNamaney, Andy Wood and Steve McGrath gave Potters Green a 3-2 edge over Balsall & Berkswell.

Brinklow powered to a 4-2 Alliance Three success against Mount Nod, Ian Judd (2), Ben Clarke and Ashley Mark securing the points before late consolations from Tony Griffiths and Ben Wood.

Bulkington Reserves' Mitch Thompson and Junior Williams claimed a 2-1 result against Witherley Reserves (Luke Tiler) as Curtis Smith (2) and Dave Lucas steered Jaguar-Daimler to a 3-1 win at Triumph Reserves (Jamie Bamwell) while Mark Windbush hit the allimportant goal as Copsewood Reserves won 1-0 at Whitnash..

Liam Taylor and Blane McBride couldn't save Bedworth Ex-Service Reserves from a 3-2 reverse against Ambleside Reserves in Alliance Four with Kevin North (2), Mark Glover, Mick Pinnock and Ron Miller leading AEI Rugby to their 5-3 victory at Cherry Tree (Alan Griffiths, Rob Jones, Noel Higgins). …
