Celebrating an Engineering Feat
June, Transport Month, is very busy and so many organisations have arranged really interesting events to celebrate the Sesquicentenary.
Of course, with our long weekend, it is also Trucking Weekend. Go along to Grafton Showground and view the big trucks.
It is also the weekend the Conservatorium is holding Conducting and Vocal Workshops. The tutors, Phillip Matthias and Bernadette Lannen, will give a recital in Christ Church Cathedral on Sunday, June 7 at 3pm. It will be 'A Treasury of Vocal and Organ Masterpieces'. Tickets will include an afternoon tea at which you will meet the artists. Tickets are available at the Conservatorium or at the door on Sunday.
The following weekend is a really big one with the Engineers Australia Conference which will be held at the South Grafton Ex-Servicemen's Club. It will be the Regional Convention 2009 Newcastle Division. The theme is 'Transport and Communication: Australia's Backbone Past, Present and Future'. The principal objective of the Newcastle Regional Convention Series is to bring engineers from all areas, regional and metropolitan, into regional centres to examine the issues which are so important to life and the economy of regional Australia, and focus on the importance of regional Australia to the nation. With the City of Grafton celebrating its sesquicentenary, the Northern Rivers Group of the Newcastle Division of Engineers Australia is keen to play a prominent role in the community celebrations with the awarding of an appropriate level engineering marker plaque to the railway bridge, with plaque awarding ceremonies to be held in Grafton.
The Grafton Hill Climb round for the State Championship will be held on Sunday, June 7. Club members of the Grafton Vintage Motor Vehicle Club will have their vehicles on display - as they will at the Trucking Weekend. …
