SWINE FLU CLOSES 2 TOWN SCHOOLS; 'Precautionary Measure' after Cases Confirmed: Swine Flu Shuts Two Schools

SWINE FLU has forced the closure of two schools in Nuneaton which cater for pupils with special needs.
Several cases of the virus have been confirmed at Oak Wood Primary and Secondary Schools and a decision was taken yesterday, in consultation with Warwickshire County Council and the Health Protection Agency, to close the schools "as a precautionary measure".
A statement said: "Two cases of swine flu were confirmed last Friday and a plan of action was swiftly put into place.
"Parents and staff were immediately notified and, as recommended by the HPA, pupils and staff who would be considered most vulnerable and with underlying health condition were advised to remain at home. "Parents and carers were also given a choice as to whether their children should attend school and advised to contact their GP if they had concerns. "Further cases were con- firmed this week and numerous pupils were experiencing symptoms of swine flu. This led to a decision to close the school. Presently no cases with serious complications have been con- firmed and there has not been a need to hospitalise any pupils. …
