JARS OF BABY FOOD IN CONTAMINATION FEAR; 67,000 Items Recalled in 'Plastic Pieces' Scare

PARENTS were yesterday warned a contaminated batch of Heinz baby food could choke infants after pieces of plastic got into the recipe.
The food giant has recalled 67,000 jars across Ireland and the UK.
The affected batch is Heinz Mum's Own Recipe Bolognese 200gm jars for babies seven months and over.
If you are concerned check the batch code on the top of the cap and the best-before date. If the code is 9136 and the best-before date is 11/2010 do not use it. The company has declared all its other products are perfectly safe.
A spokesman insisted only a fraction of the 67,000 recalled jars are affected. He added: "We got a small number of complaints, about half a dozen, saying there were small pieces of plastic.
"We thought it is appropriate to recall the entire batch. Safety is our utmost concern. It's too early to say where the plastic came from but we are investigating. …
