Search Agency, Internet Retailer and Software Specialist in Line-Up; E-Commerce Shortlist Announced

THREE companies have been shortlisted in the Excellence in e-Commerce category in the Chambers of Commerce Business Awards 2009.

They are Cardiff-based Tracesmart, Monmouthshire-based OnTracks.co.uk and Newport-based Marda Associates.

Tracesmart is the UK's leading providers of online data intelligence, serving both the consumer and corporate markets.

Customers are able to access and subscribe to an online search facility to trace individuals by searching aggregated publicly available data. To the corporate market it also offers a tracing and data cleansing facility.

Its turnover has increased significantly since effectively becoming an online business in 2004.

With turnover increasing to pounds 2.8m in 2008 from pounds 1.9m in the previous year, projected growth for this year is 43% with predicted sales of pounds 4m, OnTracks.co.uk is one of the UK''s largest internet retailers of model and hobby products.

Earlier this year it gained sole distributor rights for the non-British model railway products of Hornby. Its distribution business now trades as Hornby International.

Last year 26% of its orders were exported.

Marda Associates is a specialist reseller of software solutions where the core component of the solution uses Sage software.

Its customers include distribution, public sector organisations, manufacturers and wholesalers.

Formed in 1990 it has around 30 key customers UK-wide.

The Excellence in e-Business Award is being sponsored by motor insurance group Admiral.

Its communications manager, Justin Beddows, said: "Wales has some brilliant examples of businesses harnessing the internet, new media and e-commerce strategies to give themselves a cutting edge. These companies should celebrate what they are doing and share their stories with others, and what better way than entering the Chambers of Commerce Business Awards."

The overall awards - of which there are nine including a special lifetime achievement and the Welsh Company of the Year - are being sponsored by EADS DS of Newport. …
