RAPE, abuse and violence are part and parcel of prostitution in Ireland, a nun warned yesterday, and it's far from a "harmless transaction".
Sr Stanislaus Kennedy claimed immigrant sex workers were victims of "heartbreaking and sickening exploitation in our cities, towns and villages right around the country".
And she insisted a report that showed 102 women were in the clutches of human traffickers was just the tip of the iceberg.
Speaking at an Immigrant Council of Ireland Mothers and Daughters lunch to raise funds for victims of sex trafficking, Sr Stan said: "Let's put paid to the myth that prostitution involves harmless commercial transactions.
"It was shockingly clear that women involved in prostitution, whether they are victims of trafficking or not, can suffer severe physical and emotional impacts as a result.
"Research has consistently shown that the overwhelming majority of women involved in prostitution would rather not be. …
