Veterans on the Bus to Promote Green Energy; They Are Beating the Drum for Renewable Energy Sources

A startup group of military veterans visited Jacksonville Friday as part of a regional tour to promote alternative energy as a tool for building national security.
"It's about doing something I believe in and something I value," said Nick Breeze, a community college student in Tallahassee who served in Iraq with the Army's 4th Infantry Division in 2003 and 2004.
Breeze and others on a bus that set up next to Riverside's Memorial Park were part of a coalition calling itself Operation Free that scheduled events this weekend in DeLand, Orlando and Tampa.
Members said they wanted to encourage people to support renewable energy sources as a way to cut dependence on foreign oil and reduce climate changes widely predicted to result from greenhouse gases in traditional fuels.
That message parallels some ongoing efforts within the military to promote new fuel sources.
Last month, the Navy ordered 20,000 gallons of algae-based fuel as an experimental substitute for its main shipboard fuel. …
