Instant expert RARE books are one of the most popular collectables of all time. A rediscovered first edition of Charles Darwin's On The Origin of Species By Means of Natural Selection sold recently at auction 150 years to the day after it first came out.
Basics ORIGIN Of Species was first published on November 24, 1859. The incredibly rare title was recently rediscovered sitting on a bookcase in the guest bathroom of the vendor's house! It had been bought for only a few shillings more than 50 years ago. It came to light when the vendor's son-inlaw visited an exhibition on Darwin (below) and noticed a first edition of the book on display. Seeing the distinctive green spine, he recognised it as a book on a bookcase in the home of his father-in-law.
How much? THE rare copy of Origin sold on November 24 at Christie's in London for a superb pounds 103,250 with the pre-sale estimate being just pounds 40,000 to pounds 60,000. …
