'Annie Jr.' Comes to Arcada Theatre
Rising Star Theatreworks presents "Annie Jr." at the historic Arcada Theatre in St. Charles Friday to Sunday, Jan. 29-31.
"Annie Jr." tells the story of a spunky Depression-era orphan determined to find her parents after being abandoned on the doorstep of a New York City orphanage run by the cruel Miss Hannigan.
In this fun-filled adventure, Annie foils Miss Hannigan's schemes, befriends President Franklin Roosevelt, and finds a new family in billionaire Oliver Warbucks, his secretary and a lovable dog named Sandy.
Its upbeat plot and flamboyant characters have made Annie one of the most beloved musicals in history.
Adapted for young performers, this junior version has been abridged to under 90 minutes with music transposed into keys appropriate for young voices.
Musical numbers include "It's A Hard-Knock Life," "Maybe," "Tomorrow," "You're Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile" and "I Think I'm Gonna Like it Here."
"Annie Jr." is directed by Rising Star artistic director and co-founder Jeanne O'Donnell. Vocal director is Debra Stombres.
