No Excuse for Relaxed Approach to Industrial Safety
ON PAPER, the Federal Government's insulation scheme is a good idea.
The principles behind it - saving energy, making a conscious effort for the environment and creating jobs during a time of downturn are all admirable.
But like most things which look good on paper, the devil is all too often in the detail.
Now, following the alarming allegations surrounding the scheme - and its terrible shortcomings - everyone has a point to make, an opinion to offer and a piece of advice to those in top office.
The fact is though, that more thought should have been put into this at its inception.
Safety is not the kind of thing you do on the hop.
Years ago, indeed it would have been, but not now.
In every industry - risk is a measurable factor taken into account and managed - through prevention, education and assessment.
It is virtually a commodity- and at the core of every organisational vision.
