World Day of Prayer
As a creative response to issues of concern around the world, World Day of Prayer is observed every first Friday of March each year. The event is an opportunity to affirm that our prayer and action are inseparable and that both have influence in the world.Universally, the power of prayer has been recognized by many cultures for centuries. Whether it is a part of a formal service recited by a congregation of worshippers or an individual, prayer is part of the lives of people from a variety of religions. There seems to be an inner urge among humanityto connect with a higher source of energy and love when we need guidance or direction. Reading the prayers of various religions such as Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, and Islam, we begin to share a sense of a common experience.The deepest inner feelings and longings of people are similar. For some, prayer can be thought of as a way to ask for specific goals and special favors. For others prayer, exists when all selfish desire is put aside and they feel themselves in communion with a Supreme Being. …
