Briscoe's Let Down by Third Day Show

OLD Colwyn's Ben Briscoe qualified for his first start on the second string Nationwide Tour in America last weekend but after comfortably making the cut with a pair of level par 71s in the Stadio Athens Classic at the University of Georgia, he slipped down the field with a third round 79 before posting his third 71 on the last day.

His four round total of six over par 290 left him in a share of 65th place.

Briscoe is back in his regular Hooters Tour action on Thursday next week in the Sunset Hills Classic in Illinois.

Flint's Garry Houston missed the cut in the Turkish Airlines tournament on the Challenge Tour at the Carya Club in Antalya after rounds of 77-70.

Houston and Wrexham's Tim Dykes are in the field for the Allianz Open starting in Brittany today.

Matthew Tottey (North Wales) shot 74-73-75 and Dykes 71-76-79 to finish tied 46th and 52nd respectively in the opening Euro Pro Tour event of the season the Motocaddy Masters in Norfolk. CLUB RESULTS IWAN BONDS (75-10-65) won Division One and Michael Scott Carnell (80-16-64) Division Two in a qualifier at CLAYS with Clive Davies (78-11-67) and Karl Matthias (77-9-68) finishing behind Bonds and Andrew Jones (83-16-67) and Colin Brand (84-17-67) behind Carnell. Two handicapper Michael Platt had a nett 69 to win a medal by three from Phil Dunning (89-19-70) and Colin Bryan (77-6-71) and Dunning (39) also finished second behind Danny Williams (41) in a Stableford with Rhys Millington (37) winning another from Steve Evans (37).

Platt (71-2-69) finished third behind Diane Dare (99-34-65) and Kevin Lee Roberts (75-7-68) in a Friday medal and Lee James (40) won a junior Stableford by a point from Patrick McHugh and Thomas Matthews. Denise Bromley (86-15-71) won Division One of the Challenge Bowl from Anne Richards (89-17-72) and Pauline Peacock (97-24-73) Division Two from Janet Johnson (106-26-80). TEN handicapper Jason Jones was round in 74 for a nett 64 to win the Jubilee Trophy at HOLYWELL by a stroke from Mike O'Boyle (86-21-65) with Bill Stronach (85-19-66) third and two Carolynes, Brown and Jones won the Australian Spoons with 39 points, one ahead of Eiraan Evans and Lauren Stanfield. …
