FAMILY FUN HOUR AT GUANA

The Guana Reserve will host a Family Fun Hour with a nature story followed by a craft activity for participants to take home.

The event, set for 10 to 11:30 a.m. Friday, July 9, is open to the public; however, children ages 3 to 10 must be accompanied by an adult, one adult for every two children. The program costs $2 per person, which includes entry into the Environmental Education Center. Registration is required by contacting the reserve at 823-4500.

All materials for the event will be supplied. The reserve's Environmental Education Center is at 505 Guana River Road, off Florida A1A, 17 miles south of Butler Boulevard or 8 miles north of Vilano Beach.

SUMMER CHEER CAMP

After a two-year absence, the Fletcher Summer Cheer Camp has returned.

Open to students entering kindergarten through grade 6, the camp will be in the gymnasium at Fletcher Middle School from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 2, to Friday, Aug. 6.

Boys and girls will receive instruction in cheers, chants, dance, stunts, jumps and cheerleading games. Material is based on the campers' ages and ability levels. Students should bring their lunch and snacks, along with several non-carbonated drinks for each day.

The camp costs $100 for the week and is limited to 100 campers. Registration will begin in the front office at Fletcher Middle School beginning Tuesday. Registration hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. during the school's summer working hours. MILITARY GET IN FREE

To support and honor the military, Adventure Landing has designated Saturday and Sunday "Military Appreciation Weekend."

All active and retired military personnel will receive their choice of a free Shipwreck Island Waterpark admission at the Jacksonville Beach location or Quest Pass during this time.

A Quest Pass is valid for any combination of three attractions including miniature golf, go-karts and laser tag. Military honorees can buy additional water park or Quest Passes for their family at a $5 discount each during Military Appreciation Weekend.

Adventure Landing will be hosting Military Appreciation Weekend company-wide, with three locations in Florida, one in Texas, three in North Carolina and three in New York.

BEACH CLEANUP JULY 5

Volunteers are needed to help clean up St. Johns County's beaches Monday, the day after the coastline is expected to be littered with spent fireworks and other July Fourth debris.

The nonprofit Keepers of the Coast is recruiting volunteers for the second "Morning After" beach cleanup.

The effort will be from 8 to 11 a.m. at Mickler's Landing, Ponte Vedra Beach; Vilano beach access ramp; A Street beach access ramp; Butler Beachfront Park East; Crescent Beachfront Park; and the Fort Matanzas beach access ramp. …
