A Lecture That's Got Money, Art, and Literature. and a Dash of Sex; TALK OF THE TOWN
Byline: EDITED BY JAMES GIBBONS
FORMER Hunt Museum director Ciaran MacGonigal is travelling from his home in Edgeworthstown over to Belvedere House in Mullingar tomorrow evening to give a lecture to the great and the good of Westmeath and its environs.
MacGonigal is no stranger to Belvedere. He'd remember it for those great dinner parties in the old days when Colonel Howard Bury - one of the Hutton-Burys of Charleville Castle in Tullamore, who incorporated Howard into his name when he was left Belvedere - lived there with his companion Rex Beaumont, who was known as 'Sexy Rexy'. The house is now run by Westmeath County Council.
His lecture, as part of Heritage Week, will be on the portrait of Lady Sunderlin In Turkish Costume by Sir Joshua Reynolds, and on the Malone dynasty at Kilbixy and Barronstown.
According to MacGonigal, the subject matter will 'be QUOTE sex, though not too much, lots of money, lots and art and literature... and of course art history'.
The Hon Kieran Guinness from Knockmaroon in Dublin has a house in Westmeath called Halston and he will attend, bringing a 19th century etching of the painting. …
