Cool Casa Has Half a Chance at Curragh
Byline: by PEADAR FLANAGAN
THE Michael halford-trained Casamento, who caused a stir when putting Pathfork to the pin of his collar to win the National Stakes at the Curragh earlier this month, was supplemented yesterday for Sunday's [euro]100,000 Juddmonte Beresford Stakes at the Curragh.
The son of Shamardal, who had earlier caught the eye of some shrewd judges when winning at Tipperary on debut, faces a maximum of 13 rivals, including eight trained by Aidan O'Brien, in the Group Two contest.
O'Brien, whose win 12 months ago with St Nicholas Abbey was his 10th in this race, will select from Samuel Morse, Long Live The King, Factum, eskimo, Robin Hood, Master Of Hounds, Seville and Treasure Beach, to represent him on this occasion.
Dunboyne Express, Kevin Prendergast's outstanding winner of the Anglesey Stakes at the Curragh in July, will be a surprise absentee.
However, Prendergast's Longhunter, following a return to winning form in the Blenheim Stakes, looks poised to be in Sunday's line-up.
Prendergast has also pencilled in Mawaakef, the winner of a maiden at Killarney last month.
The Juddmonte Beresford Stakes has thrown up a host of big-name stars-in-waiting, including Sea The Stars and Azamour, in previous years, and has long since been recognised as an important stepping stone for two-year-olds bidding to aspire to classic honours at three.
Seven British-trained entries, including four trained by Mick Channon -- Majestic Dubawi, Sonning Rose, Show Rainbow and Bonita Star -- remain in the filliesonly CL Weld Park Stakes, also at the Curragh on Sunday.
Brian Meehan has left in Quiet Oasis and Shim Sham and the British group is completed by Richard hannon's Attracted To You. O'Brien will choose from a half-dozen consisting of Wild Wind, Diamond Brooch, eirnin, Look At Me, Juliet Capulet and Queen Of Spain to represent him in the Group Three contest.
Wild Wind has also been entered in the Fillies Mile at Ascot on Saturday along with stable companions Together and Misty For Me. …
