Everyone has a sphere of influence, a social circle or what could even be called a "catchment area". In addition to your traditional target market, consider your area of influence and how you could utilise it to get your dream job or client, or to expand your contact base.

l Who knows you?

l Where are you well known?

l Where do you have influence that could be leveraged to create a more prominent profile?

l Who can help you in building your profile and area of influence?

If you are highly regarded in your local sports club, or at your local community centre, then these are promotional platforms for positioning your brand beyond just your "hard-hitting" baseball talent or the volunteering you do in a literacy programme in a local township.

Every person you meet and interact with there sees you in a certain, admirable light.

It is like putting a stronger globe into the light fitting - ask people about themselves and you will start to see the opportunities of using their area of influence (friends, family and business acquaintances) to assist and grow yours.

Write down what you believe your areas of influence are. Then look at how you could extend them.
