Barangay Assembly Day


MANILA, Philippines - President Aquino has declared December 11, 2010, Saturday, as Barangay Assembly Day across the country wherein citizens can interact with their village officials.In Proclamation No. 74, the President directed all city and municipal mayors to ensure compliance of all barangays and maximize participation in the synchronized barangay assembly early next month.The President added that mayors should make rounds of barangay assembly conducted in their respective jurisdiction.The Local Government Code of 1991 requires the conduct of synchronized barangay assembly twice a year to hear and discuss the semestral report of the sangguniang barangay concerning its activities and finances, as well as problems affecting the barangay.Proclamation No. 342 was issued in 2003 declaring the first Saturday of March and third Saturday of October as "Synchronized Barangay Assembly Days."The synchronized barangay assembly slated last month did not push through due to its proximity to the October 25 barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections, the proclamation read.
