Nine's Decision a Show of Contempt and Poor Judgment
I DON'T know about you, but I do get a little irritated by people in big cities making decisions about what we in regional areas might like, or what is good for us.
I've moved around a fair bit throughout my life and have lived in cities, regional areas, tiny rural towns and a few places overseas, and if there's one thing I've learnt from all those experiences it's that people don't like to be pigeonholed or have C[pounds sterling]outsidersC[yen] try to tell them what their identity is.
A classic case of this was Channel Nine's last-minute, and unwise, decision to pull new show Come Fly With Me from the Monday primetime slot on regional affiliate WIN because they weren't sure if it would offend viewers, and they wanted to see how it would rate.
The show's creators, Matt Lucas and David Walliams, have already had a huge hit in Australia with Little Britain, many of whose characters resonated with Australians, whether they were metropolitan or regional. …
