A Letter from the President of CaGIS

Greeting CaGIS members!
As your incoming President, I would like to give you an update on the many things happening with CaGIS as we approach the half-way mark in our first year as an independent organization.
We finished last year with a very successful AutoCarto conference in Orlando. Select papers from the conference are published in this issue of CaGIS.
CaGIS, as the sponsoring body for the U.S. National Committee to the International Cartographic Association, submitted a bid to host the International Cartographic Conference (ICC) in Washington, D.C. in 2015. We understand the only other bid for the 2015 meeting is from Brazil. The decision on where to hold the meeting will be made at the ICC in Paris in July of this year. If we are successful in our bid to host the meeting, it will be a tremendous honor and responsibility for CaGIS and its many partners to make the meeting a success. Keep your fingers crossed and wish the Local Organizing Committee good luck in Paris!
