The Case Studies That Proved Liverpool's Commitment to Sustainability
LIVERPOOL showcased nine case studies representing the city's commitment to sustainability across both public and private sectors.
They were: * Liverpool Waters: The pounds 5.5bn waterfront scheme set to transform derelict dockland to the north of the city into a vibrant commercial and residential hub rivalling anywhere in the world.
The project includes creating a major sustainable community; * The Eldonians District Energy System: The housing cooperative built in Vauxhall is an ultra-green development featuring state-of-the-art communal heating; * Liverpool Commercial District partnership: The group was presented to the committee as an example of the private sector promoting urban renewal in the heartland of Liverpool. The partnership this year followed in the footsteps of Liverpool ONE with the creation of the Business Improvement District; * Global Entrepreneurship Congress 2012: The city's culture of entrepreneurship and ability to create jobs will be shown off to the world when Liverpool becomes the first European city to host the Global Entrepreneurship Congress (GEC).
The week-long event in March will attract the world's leading entrepreneurs and economists from more than 100 countries; * Liverpool's Decade of Health and Wellbeing: The plan to get the region healthy by 2020 has been celebrated as a way of making real changes to the city's health; * Rights and Humanity International Centre of Excellence: The centre, in the Liver Building, promotes equality and social cohesion in the city. …
