EVERY golfer loves to pick up a tip or two about the game.
Well, Carmel Macdermott handed a couple out for free last week when she found herself in the spotlight of this year's Australian Women's Senior Amateur Championship at Toowoomba Golf Club.
Macdermott's performance to emerge from 78 players to finish runner-up to six-time champion Sylvia Donohoe in the tournament carried a simple message.
It's never too late to take up a sport and don't think you can't keep taking another step.
Macdermott took up golf only eight years ago with some encouragement from her husband Mark.
In the following years her handicap has tumbled from 45 to seven and last week she proved to be Australia's second best senior's tournament player.
Macdermott emerged as an unlikely heroine for her club and women's golf on the Darling Downs but it's a cap she is happy to wear in the name of her sport. …
