ECC Speaker to Discuss Cultural Differences in China and India
The Elgin Community College Humanities Center Speaker Series continues Tuesday, Nov. 8, with a presentation by James Rubenstein, a geography professor from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. The free event starts at 12:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the Advanced Technology Center.
Rubenstein will discuss issues on the effects of cultural differences and economic and political developments in India and China.
"People are plugged into a global economy and culture, producing a world that is more uniform, integrated and interdependent," Rubenstein said in news release. "Yet despite globalization, economic specialization and cultural differences among places not only persist, but actually flourish."
Sponsored by the Humanities Center, the series aims to bring renowned speakers to ECC's campus. Past participants have included a New York City artist, an American pastor in Peru and former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations.
Later in the month, nationallyacclaimed poet, actor and playwright Ariel Luckey will perform during the 2011-12 Writers Center Reading Series.
