Digital Media: Never a Dull Day Just the Right Space for Online Advertising
What does your job entail? I am responsible for ensuring the complete and optimal performance of online advertising campaigns, working closely with the sales managers and other campaign managers.
Online advertising is similar to traditional advertising, in that companies book space on websites as they would in newspapers and magazines. Clients book space on a selection of websites, promo mailers, newsletters, advertorials and mobile space, to advertise their specific products or services.
We handle the strategy, implementation, management, analysis and reporting of the campaigns for clients. Our service includes sales, and we "serve" the advert onto a web page that is targeted to reach the right audience.
We take care of traffic management, which entails manually optimising the advert to ensure that it's showing where it should be, at the right times, without errors.
Describe your average work day: The day starts with a request for an inventory forecast from our sales team, to see how much advertising space is available on a specific website for the campaign period. Once the client approves, we reserve the inventory.
Testing, troubleshooting and loading the material follows, and if everything is correct, the campaign is put "live", which means that it's made visible to all website users. I monitor and optimise the campaign to ensure full delivery and attend to any queries the clients or sales team might have. Progress reports are sent while the campaign is running and a final report is sent.
Online campaign managers are the clasp that completes the chain and forms an integral part of the service that we provide, so I handle every query that comes along.
Best part of the job: The challenge of helping put together a proposal, then seeing it implemented and ensuring a happy client.
Worst part of the job: Difficulties can arise in making sure a campaign will complete its delivery if there are delays in starting the campaign.
Why did you choose this career? The possibilities are endless with technology and media which means there is never a dull day. I love the world of digital media, and I love the challenges.
