An application for funding under the Federal Government's Building Better Regional Cities fund was submitted by Gladstone Regional Council in November 2011.
The Federal Government is expected to announce successful funding applications by June 2012.
THE need for a retirement village in Gladstone has reached breaking point with long-term residents selling their homes and vacating the region in record numbers.
For years it has been an uphill battle for council and concerned elderly residents to further the Phillip Street Community Precinct plans.
As hopes of attracting a private investor to develop the village fade, a pending application for Federal Government funding remains the only option for financing the project.
Re-elected Councillor Maxine Brushe has been a strong campaigner for the village and says the decreasing elderly demographic is a real concern.
