Libraries Get in on Smart Option; Workshops to Demonstrate Technology

FORGET paperbacks and hardcovers, book lovers in the Somerset can now get their literary fix digitally.
Libraries across the Somerset region have begun stocking their shelves with ereaders and tablets to let residents try out changing technology.
To help adapt to new technology, Somerset Libraries have introduced a range of electronic book readers as well as tablet and smart phones to their shelves.
To help residents adjust and understand the new technology, a series of hands-on free demonstrations and workshops will be held throughout October.
Somerset librarian Caroline Smith said the digital literacy workshops would help people test out the latest technology.
aThe workshops are designed to celebrate the 2012 National Year of Reading by providing an opportunity for the wider community to experience the digital alternatives to print,a she said.
aWe will be holding more than 30 three-hour workshops in October and they will be held at our libraries in Esk, Kilcoy and Lowood and also the Fernvale Futures Complex. …
