Keep 'Area 51' Closed - DOLE
MANILA, Philippines - The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) issued an order on Monday to monitor and ensure that a club on Roxas Boulevard, Paranaque City, which was shut down in May for serving as an alleged front for prostitution, is kept closed.
"Keep it closed and monitor the charges filed by the NBI (National Bureau of Investigation) against the owners," DOLE Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz said.
Her statement released on Monday specifically orders DOLE-National Capital Region Director Alan Macaraya to make sure that Area 51 KTV Entertainment Club, located on Roxas Boulevard, does not reopen after being charged in court for violating laws on prostitution and obscene or lewd shows.
A DOLE statement said it found 19 underaged girls among those working at Area 51 KTV Entertainment Club. "The dental examination conducted by the NBI revealed that 19 of the 60 rescued workers are minor girls," it said.
Baldoz said the discovery makes the operators and managers of the said bar liable under existing laws, specifically Section 21(a) of DOLE Department Order No. 65-04.
