State reports first hypothermia death
State health officials say the winter's first death due to hypothermia has been reported in Frederick County.
The Department of Health and Mental Hygiene said Thursday that a man age 65 or older had died. The death was confirmed between Dec. 18 and Dec. 24.
Officials say no other information will be released on the victim.
Fifteen hypothermia-related deaths occurred in Maryland during the 2011-2012 winter weather season.
21-year-old found dead in vehicle
A 21-year-old Capitol Heights man was fatally shot Thursday morning, Prince George's County police said.
Nichols Andrew Battle, of the 100 block of West Mill Road, was found inside a vehicle at Pepper Mill Drive and Drylog Street in Capitol Heights at 6:54 a.m. Thursday.
Police said officers responded to the scene after a report of a suspicious vehicle. Officers found Mr. Battle suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Gambling lobbyists top list for spending
