Tory MP Calls for Return To'traditional'conservatism
David Cameron should publish the next Conservative general election manifesto as early as 2014 - to help the party distinguish itself from the Liberal Democrats, according to a Tory MP.
Chris Kelly (Lab Dudley South) part of the 2010 intake and, is, like many newer Tory MPs, looking forward to a return to fullblooded Conservatism. This means ditching the Liberal Democrat influence and returning to power with a Tory majority.
Speaking to the Birmingham Post, Mr Kelly had no criticisms to make of Mr Cameron but he was keen to point out he was a "staunch Thatcherite".
Mr Cameron, by contrast, has described himself as a "liberal Conservative" and a "modern, compassionate Conservative", phrases sometimes seen as an attempt to distance himself from the more strident approach adopted by Lady Thatcher.
Mr Kelly said: "I of course supported the formation of the Coalition government but I don't agree in policy terms with everything the Coalition does. I look forward to us publishing our own manifesto. If that can happen in 2014 then the sooner the better. I would like to see some clear blue water between us and the Liberal Democrats. …
