No Whitewash of Atimonan Probe, Malacanang Assures
MANILA, Philippines --- Nearly a month after the controversial killing of 13 people in Atimonan, Quezon, President Benigno S. Aquino III will finally have the first crack at the complete report of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on the bloody incident this week.
Presidential Spokesman Edwin Lacierda assured that there will be no whitewash of the investigation and no leakage when the NBI submits its findings to the President.
"The apprehensions are unfounded. The Secretary of Justice will submit the report this week to the President," Lacierda said in a Palace press briefing.
Lacierda said the NBI report will be given to the President personally to prevent leaks of the document. He admitted that they have raised their concern with Justice Secretary Leila de Lima on the "many things coming out from the NBI."
"And so Secretary Leila de Lima gave strict instructions (to) the NBI that there should be no leakage. She's very aware of those news reports coming out in the various broadsheets," Lacierda said. …
