Power Plant Mishap Kills 5
PILILLA, Rizal - Five construction workers were killed and at least ten others injured when the metal scaffolds which they were putting up inside the smoke chamber of a power plant, here, collapsed last Sunday, police said yesterday.
As of press time, retrieval operations were under way at the SPC Power Plant, formerly Salcon Power Plant, in Barangay Malaya, in this town, said PO1 Roldan Cayad-an.
Cayad-an identified one of the fatalities as Eduard Fidel, 35, of Quezon Street, Barangay Malaya, here.
He also identified the injured as Rogelio Carageno, 47, and Benedicto Batain, 39, both of Barangay Malaya; and Toreso Escuerra, 44, and Gualberto Rodriguez, 55, both of Calaca, Batangas.
The four injured were taken to the Tanay General Hospital for treatment.
Police said rescuers from the Pasig City Rescue Team trooped to the power plant, popularly known here as Kephilco, to assist company and local government rescue personnel in the rescue operation. Other rescue teams from nearby towns and the provincial government followed after reports that five workers were still pinned inside the smoke chamber. …
