Philippine Vice President Jejomar C. Binay to Attend the Asean-India Commemorative Summit in New Delhi, India
VICE President Jejomar C. Binay is leaving today to represent President Benigno S. Aquino III in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)-India Commemorative Summit in New Delhi, India, on December 20-21, 2012, to mark the 20th Anniversary of the ASEAN-India Dialogue Partnership and the 10th Anniversary of the ASEAN-India Summit-Level Partnership. The Summit is being hosted by Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh who said that it would "signify the full fruition of India's integration with ASEAN."
Vice President Binay will join the Leaders in reviewing ASEAN-India relations. They will explore opportunities to further enhance diplomatic and economic ties as well as cooperation on a range of issues, including trade, maritime, food and energy security, labor, education, health, and tourism.
The theme of the Summit is, "ASEAN-India Partnership for Peace and Shared Prosperity," focusing on enhanced relations with ASEAN as central to India's "Look East Policy" which was initiated in 1991. India became a dialogue partner of ASEAN in 1992 and full dialogue partner in 1996. India has held annual summits with ASEAN since 2002. …
