CONGRATULATIONS to everybody connected with Cardiff City on claiming the Championship title at Turf Moor yesterday.
It is without doubt one of the toughest 'second divisions' in world football.
After several years of going so close, the introduction of Malky Mackay and several key players has been the catalyst for this year's success.
Now Cardiff City must look down the road to their South Wales neighbours OUR VIEW Swansea and learn from them.
They have created the template for Premiership success, built on sensible financial management and leadership, a strong work ethic, a careful balance of Welsh, British and foreign players, all built around a realistic expectation of revenue from a hardcore support.
Cardiff, with a home crowd limited to 26,000, will not compete with Manchester's double act and top London clubs. But with sound investment and good management they can make the huge leap from the Championship to Premiership mid-table.
Ambitions will always be higher but as we've seen in the Championship, success doesn't happen overnight. One step at a time...
As a man who lost his mother, on the same day at the exact time as the death of Margaret Thatcher and who supported the Labour party for 39 years until joining Ukip - and who served in the Welsh Guards at the time of the Falklands and lost his closest friend and many other comrades - my view on her passing is a mixed one.
But anyone who acts enthusiastic on a death of any person or who chooses to protest at any memorial service lacks any honourable support for their cause.
