Editorial: The Philippine Medical Association 106th Annual Convention and Scientific Meetings Held at the Historic Landmark Manila Hotel
The Philippine Medical Association (PMA) is holding its 106th Annual Convention and Scientific Meetings at the Historic Landmark Manila Hotel on May 14-17, 2013, with the theme, "PMA: Nagkakaisang Manggagamot Tungo sa Kalusugang Pangkalahatan."
The PMA has metamorphosed from an affiliate society 109 years ago to a potent force in the Philippine medical community, committed to delivering quality healthcare to Filipinos. It has today 70,000 members in 118 component medical societies, eight specialty divisions, 73 specialty and subspecialty societies, and 39 affiliate societies in the country. They hold medical missions, clinics, blood donations, and other forms of medical support in Philippine regions. They advocate environmental protection through tree planting, waste management, pest and pollution control, and support for laws on clean air and solid waste management. They support programs of the Department of Health, the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation, and the Professional Regulations Commission (PRC).
The PMA was founded on September 15, 1903, by the Manila Medical Society as the Philippine Islands Medical Association and affiliated it with the American Medical Association to bring services and activities to more Filipinos. …
