Ardina Saves Day for Women Pros
CANLUBANG - Dottie Ardina lived up to her billing as the country's top woman player by winning the inaugural ICTSI Philippine Ladies Tour crown at The Country Club yesterday, closing with five birdies on the last nine holes to win by one stroke.
She outgunned former amateur teammates Princess Superal and Cyna Rodriguez in a thrilling backside shootout with her 31 and finished a bogey-free seven-under 65.
It was sweet victory for the multi-titled Ardina who nearly had to live with the embarrassment of being beaten by amateurs.
Her birdie binge began on No. 12 where she seized a one-stroke edge over Superal after matching her rival's own birdie.
She also birdied the 13th ,14th and 17th but Superal just wouldn't go away.
She led by one on the 18th where she made a routine par and finally heaved relief when Superal missed a birdie putt from eight feet that would have forced a playoff.
The win, worth P100,000, likewise marked Ardina's pro debut with the former Junior World champion and winner of a number of local and international titles finishing with a nine-under 207. …
